Keynote Speaker: Andrew Justin Stewart Coats

Andrew Justin Stewart Coats (born 1 February 1958) is an Australian–British academic cardiologist who has particular interest in the management of heart failure. His research turned established teaching on its head and promoted exercise training (rather than bed rest) as a treatment for CHF. He was instrumental in describing the "muscle hypothesis" of heart failure. In addition to this, Coats is also a successful fundraiser, university administrator, and inventor. His Imperial College patents have formed the basis of companies specializing in the treatment of cachexia.

Andrew Coats will lead the board of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology in the next future. His lecture will deal with the great challenge of this endemic disease and with the role of a great multinational Scientific Society in supporting the advancement in research, science and clinical care in the field.
